Nathan

Nathan had a very interesting week. It started last Saturday when we attended cousin Bryce's 3rd birthday party at their farm. Nathan drove a golf cart all around the barns, fast. I said, "Nathan be careful, watch out for that building", he says, "I got this, Mom". Monday he went to school and they were having a book fair. He found this Star Wars Lego Dictionary that he just had to have. $21.99! Nathan begged, pleaded, and manipulated us for over 24 hours trying to get the money for that book. We told him it was just too much and maybe we could find it cheaper somewhere else, or for Christmas. He wasn't happy at all. Well, Grandpa Ted came through for him and gave him the cash, with a promise to come help him clean up at the farm this weekend. So Nathan goes to school Wednesday with his money to buy the book. He had $22 for the $21.99 purchase. At about 12:30 I get a call from the school nurse. Nathan swallowed a penny. Joel asked, "where did he get a penny at school?". I know where. BOOK FAIR! Well, he was quite shaken by the whole thing and will not do that again. Joel asked, "what were you doing with it in your mouth?" "I just wasn't being smart" he replies. Thursday morning we attended his Parent-Teacher Conference. It was pretty great. He is in the highest reading group, well above grade level in reading, writing, spelling, and math. He is also apparently Mr. Helpful at school. Helping the teacher and reminding kids to quiet down and finish their work. She said he is very focused and serious and a pleasure to teach. An example: Nathan brings home a small packet of homework on Monday's and is supposed to return it on Thursday. He finished the first packet in about 10 minutes. I told him to please double check him work because he got done really fast. He assured me they were all correct. When I checked he was right on all except one. I told him he missed one math question and he immediately knew which question was answered wrong and re-figured it correctly in his head. He is pretty awesome.
